Regression Analysis
Development Phase of Regression Analysis
Select (Designs, Regression Models, Regression Analysis - One Predictor Variable) and click the Accept command. Select (Analysis I, Regression Analysis)
![]() |
and click the Accept command. Click on Descriptive Statistics,
![]()
|
click on the Standardize Variance options box, and Select the Standardizing Variable Y. Click the Accept command.
![]()
|
Compare the above table with the results of the Regression Analysis
![]() |
and note that the Coefficient of Determination is the Standard Variance of the predicted variable Y' (.250) and the Coefficient of Alienation is the Standard Variance of the error variable Y^ (.75).
Estimation Phase of Regression Analysis
Click on the Estimation Phase command
![]() |
click the Open Scalar Module and Clear Scalar Display commands, and store the B Weight and Intercept in the scalar module.
![]() |
For this hypothetical example, let us pretend that the predictor variable X is the new predictor variable X. Clear (Data, Delete Variables) the other variables from the scalar display. Select (Operations, Multiply by a Constant), drag the B Weight to the Constant input box, Name the product BX, mark the variable X
![]() |
and click on the Append command.
Right click the Descriptive Statistics command, select (Operations, Add a Constant), drag the Intercept to the Constant input box, Name the sum Y', mark the variable BX
![]() |
and click on the Append command.

For this hypothetical example, the predicted variables Y' for both the Development Phase and the Estimation Phase of regression analysis are identical.
